  1. I want to know how the hell it takes three years to convert three or four miles of railway line. 

    It’s no different in scope to the conversions of the old BR Manchester-Bury and Manchester-Altrincham lines to form the Manchester Metrolink; I don’t recall the work for those taking anything like as long as three years, and that was a far bigger project involving many more miles of track and many more stations.
